The wasps that actually put Treasure Valley residents in urgent care are western yellow jackets, German yellow jackets, and bald-faced hornets. All three build large colonies, defend nests aggressively, and peak in August and September. Western yellow jackets nest underground and cause the most stings statewide. German yellow jackets nest in wall voids and attic spaces. Bald-faced hornets build football-shaped gray nests in trees.
