$49 to start
Rodent control in Star comes down to two things happening at once every fall. The Farmers Union Ditch, which waters farm ground across Eagle and Star, shuts off in October. And the field next to your subdivision might be a new subdivision by spring. Star is one of the fastest-growing cities in Idaho, and most of that growth landed on old farm ground. Every acre that gets graded is an acre of mice and voles that has to go somewhere.
Somewhere is usually your garage. As of October 2026, our Star calls are running heaviest in the newer neighborhoods off Highway 44 that still back up to open ground, and on the horse and hobby-farm lots out toward Beacon Light and Middleton. Not sure which rodent left those droppings? Our Idaho rodent identification guide tells deer mice, house mice, and voles apart in about a minute, and it's the first thing we'd have you read.
Green Guard covers all of Star (ZIP 83669) on the same weekly route as Eagle. Our Star pest control page covers everything else we handle in town, our winter rodent prevention guide lists the DIY fixes worth doing before the first freeze, and our Boise rodent control guide covers the valley-wide picture. Your first treatment is $49 with a quarterly or bimonthly plan. That covers a look for activity, locked bait stations, copper mesh in the obvious gaps, interior and exterior treatment, and your protection plan setup. Quarterly service starts at $119, and if mice come back between visits, so do we. Free. We can usually get out within 24 to 48 hours, and same-day service is often available. Call (208) 297-7947.
The Farmers Union Ditch runs through Eagle and Star, and the water goes off in October. Ditch banks and laterals stay green and full of cover all summer. When the water stops, those banks dry out and the voles and mice living in them move to the nearest thing still irrigated and sheltered. That's usually a lawn, a landscape bed, and a foundation line in a subdivision that borders the ditch.
Star keeps adding new phases every year, and most of those homes went in on former farm fields. Grading a 40-acre parcel pushes out every deer mouse living in it, and the homes on the edge of the last phase take the hit. If your back fence faces an open field or a lot with survey stakes in it, plan on mouse pressure until that field is built out.
Builders in Star lay fresh sod over loose, recently disturbed soil, and voles love it. In spring, after the snow melts, homeowners find winding surface trails chewed through the grass and gnawed bark on young trees along the fence line. Voles live outside, so they're a separate service from the indoor mouse plan, and we price them on their own.
Out toward Beacon Light Road, Star Road, and the Middleton side, a lot of Star properties have horses, chickens, hay storage, and detached shops. Stored grain and spilled feed keep the mouse population high all year, and those outbuildings stay quiet enough for nesting. Mice that winter in a hay barn are the same mice testing your garage door seal in October.
Year-round, with a sharp jump from late September through November as the Farmers Union Ditch shuts off and nights drop toward freezing
Star is still half farm town and half brand-new suburb, so the rodent pool is huge and it sits right against the newest homes. Deer mice move off graded fields and dry ditch banks into garages, house mice settle into older homes near downtown, and voles tunnel through fresh sod in the new subdivisions.
Step one
We walk the foundation, garage, and utility lines looking for droppings, rub marks, and the gaps mice are using.
Step two
Tamper-resistant bait stations go along the runways, and one can go at the crawl space entrance.
Step three
We pack copper mesh into the obvious gaps we find on the visit.
Step four
Quarterly service keeps a treated barrier and locked bait stations working through the cold months.
On newer Star homes, the garage door corner seals, the gap around the AC line set, and the dryer vent are the three we find most often. We don't go into attics or crawl spaces.
Snap traps are rare. Bait takes time, since mice have to find the stations and feed, so give it a couple of weeks before judging results.
Bigger fixes, like a cracked foundation, a damaged vent cover, or a new door sweep, are a job for you or a handyman, and our winter prevention guide walks through them.
February is peak mouse breeding season in the Treasure Valley, so the winter visit matters. If mice come back between visits, call us. Re-service is free.

"After three other companies couldn't keep ants out of our kitchen, Green Guard solved it in one visit. Six months later, still zero ants."
"I was skeptical at first, but Green Guard exceeded every expectation. They found entry points I never knew existed and haven't seen a spider since."
"After two other companies failed, Green Guard solved our ant problem in one visit. Professional, thorough, and actually effective."

Call (208) 297-7947Quick answerTwo reasons hit at once.
The Farmers Union Ditch and the other canals around Star shut off in October, so the ditch banks where mice and voles spent the summer dry out. At the same time, nights drop toward freezing and new construction keeps grading the fields next to existing subdivisions. Mice follow warmth and cover, and the closest source is usually a garage.
Quick answerYour first treatment is $49 for any home size with a quarterly or bimonthly plan and a 1-year agreement that locks in your rate.
After that, quarterly service is $119 for homes up to 2,500 sq ft, $139 for 2,501 to 4,000 sq ft, and $159 for 4,001 to 5,500 sq ft. Homes over 5,500 sq ft get a custom quote. Re-service between visits is free, and voles and other outdoor rodents are priced as a separate service.
Quick answerSame-day service is often available in Star, and we can usually get out within 24 to 48 hours.
Star sits on the same weekly route as Eagle, so a technician is close by most days. We cover every address in ZIP 83669. Call (208) 297-7947 and we'll find the earliest opening.
Quick answerBecause the field behind you probably had them first.
When a parcel gets graded for the next phase, the deer mice living in it scatter to the closest standing structures. New homes also have fresh gaps around utility lines and garage door seals that haven't been tightened up yet. Start with the gaps, then call us for locked bait stations so the next wave has nowhere to settle.
Quick answerIt's a rule of thumb that says if you see a mouse and do nothing, you'll have a bigger problem within about five days.
It isn't scientific, but the idea holds up. House mice can breed every three weeks, so a single mouse in late September can turn into a nest by Thanksgiving. Acting in the first week is far cheaper than waiting for winter, so call us as soon as you spot one.
Quick answerYes, but voles live outside, so they're a separate service with separate pricing from the indoor plan.
Vole trails show up most in spring on new sod in Star subdivisions and along fence lines near open ground. Tell us what you're seeing when you call, and we'll quote the vole service on its own.
Quick answerBait stays inside locked, tamper-resistant stations, never loose on the ground, and snap traps are rare.
On Star acreages we place stations around the house and garage and keep them away from feed storage and animal pens. Tell your technician where kids play and animals roam, and we'll plan placement around that.
Quick answerNo.
Mice and rats inside the home are covered by the plan, and a bait station can go at the crawl space entrance, but our technicians don't go into crawl spaces or treat attics. Gophers and squirrels go to a specialist, and so does droppings cleanup. Call (208) 297-7947 and we'll point you to a trusted specialist, then keep your home protected with our quarterly plan.
